Section 1: Job Role and Job Title

Job Title: Sr. Technician – Brazing
Job Role: Execute precision Orbital TIG (OTIG) welding operations on aerospace-grade materials including Inconel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, and others, while ensuring adherence to stringent quality and safety standards.

Section 2: Objective of the Job Role

To deliver high-quality weld joints for tubes and ducts used in fluid distribution systems within the aviation, aerospace, and defence sectors, using Orbital TIG welding processes. The role supports efficient production cycles, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with customer and regulatory standards.

Section 3: Key Responsibilities of the Job Role

  • Perform daily welding, pre-welding, and post-welding operations.
  • Operate and program orbital TIG welding machines for materials like Inconel, SS, Titanium, Aluminum, etc.
  • Conduct weld inspections using borescope and dimensional measuring tools.
  • Read and interpret detailed customer technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure maintenance of welding equipment and consumables.
  • Implement kaizens related to safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RRCA) and corrective action for weld defects and reworks.
  • Maintain shop floor discipline including 5S and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) control.
  • Strictly follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and Work Instructions.

Section 4: Competencies Required to Perform the Job Role

  • Technical Expertise in OTIG welding of aerospace-grade materials.
  • Attention to Detail in weld quality, measurement, and documentation.
  • Problem Solving skills for defect resolution and process improvement.
  • Team Collaboration across cross-functional teams (CFT) for quality control.
  • Discipline and Adherence to standards like 5S, FOD, and safety protocols.
  • Basic Maintenance and Troubleshooting of OTIG welding equipment.

Section 5: Knowledge Required for the Job Role

  • Orbital TIG welding processes and machine programming.
  • Metallurgical behavior of materials like Inconel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, etc.
  • Aerospace and defence welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS D17.1, AS9100).
  • Drawing interpretation (GD&T, weld symbols).
  • Non-destructive testing basics (visual, borescope inspection).
  • Shop floor practices including SOPs, WIs, and lean manufacturing principles.

Section 6: Preferred Personality Type Required for the Job Role

Big Five (OCEAN) Traits:

  • Conscientiousness (High) – Crucial for precision, safety, and SOP adherence.
  • Openness (Moderate) – For adaptability to evolving technologies and materials.
  • Emotional Stability (High) – Needed in high-stress quality environments.
  • Agreeableness (Moderate to High) – For collaboration within cross-functional teams.
  • Extraversion (Low to Moderate) – Role is more task-focused than socially intensive.

MBTI Type Suggestion: ISTP (The Virtuoso)

  • Introverted: Focused and independent while working on complex welds.
  • Sensing: Pays attention to tangible, technical details.
  • Thinking: Objective, logical problem-solver in defect analysis.
  • Perceiving: Flexible to accommodate new processes and problem-solving on the fly.

Section 7: Aptitude Required for the Job Role

  • Mechanical Reasoning – ★★★★★
For understanding machinery, welding dynamics, and tool operation.
  • Spatial Reasoning – ★★★★☆
Essential for interpreting 3D components, tube paths, and joint locations.
  • Logical Reasoning – ★★★★☆
Used in defect analysis, process troubleshooting, and root cause resolution.
  • Numerical Reasoning – ★★★☆☆
Required for understanding measurements, tolerances, and machine settings.
